I am an interdisciplinary researcher of peace, conflict and organised crime. My areas of interest and expertise include:
Non-state armed groups and organised crime groups
Rebel and criminal governance and how local people navigate this relationship
The interconnections between crime, conflict and other forms of violence
Illicit economies
I have both academic and policy experience on these issues and have provided research, analysis and advice to organisations including the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and Ohio State University.
My PhD research at the University of Bristol reconceptualises legitimacy to explore local people's role in their relationship with non-state armed groups, illuminating how the bottom-up shapes dynamics of power, violence, peace and conflict at the local level.
Beyond my PhD, my research explores peace, conflict and organised crime, and their intersections with areas such as gender, migration, terrorism and humanitarianism. I have regional expertise and fieldwork experience in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, and West Africa. I have held research roles at the University of Bristol, University of West England, University of Birmingham, Birkbeck, University of London and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). I also provide research, analysis and advice as an independent consultant.
I am Associate Fellow in Organised Crime and Policing at RUSI and an Associate Lecturer in Criminology at the University of West England. In 2026, I was selected as one of the Conflict Research Society's Emerging Scholars.
Before entering academia I held various policy and communications roles in the UK Civil Service, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Cabinet Office.
